For USC it has been thirty-seven times and for UCLA it has been seventeen times. Their rivalry has been so significant to the world of college football, that at one point famed UCLA coach Henry “Red” Sanders was quoted saying “Beating ‘SC is not a matter of life or death, it's more important than that.” Every time UCLA and USC take the field against one another, many names have been attributed to such an occurrence: “The Cross-town Showdown”, “The Los Angeles City Championship”, “The Cross-town Rivalry”, “The Battle of L.A.”, or more simply, “USC-UCLA/UCLA-USC Football Game”.
